Heat of the Moment, the climate album from Mathis Picard out November 3, is an exercise in joyful resistance. The French-Malagasy pianist takes the most fraught, consequential issue of our lifetimes — one designed to invoke despair and hopelessness by the powers that be — and he creates music about it that makes you feel good. Featuring an all-star cast of friends and collaborators, Heat of the Moment feels like a family reunion, and a prayer of loving kindness for ourselves and our planet.

A message from Mathis:
Heat of The Moment is a musical exploration into how we - as individuals and communities - respond to the fear, urgency, and potential for growth within the predicament of climate change and justice.
This is an album that developed from my deep love of nature. The earth and humanity are intricately linked - when we hurt the planet, we hurt ourselves. When we heal the planet, we heal our communities.
As a touring musician, I see the effects of climate change all over the world. It’s easy to become discouraged. We must be willing to change our ways. I believe this begins by changing our perspective. To shift from fear of the natural world towards a loving curiosity for our planet, our communities, and ourselves.
So I ask myself, what can I do? Heat Of The Moment is a musical response to this question. Calling upon my experiences on the road, my personal meditation practice, and some of the greatest artists in the world, this album provides both a balm and a sonic road map to facing the greatest challenge of our times - healing planet Earth.
