I remember that ferry ride back across the border I remember that bar where nobody knew my name I remember the mountains casting shadows over the wake from our boat I could have played along and let the wedding happen my family wouldn’t have said a word I could have played along with my hands in my pockets condemned with the rest of the herd do you remember that July dinner back on the east coast? do you remember that bar where nobody knew our names? do you remember the buildings casting shadows over the paint on the road I could have played along and let the wedding happen my family wouldn’t have said a word I could have played along with my hands in my pockets condemned with the rest of the herd say it out loud say it out loud to me say it out loud to yourself say it out loud say it out loud say it out loud now You could have played along and let the wedding happen your family wouldn’t have said a word We could have played along with our hands in our pockets condemned with the rest of the herd

Music by Charles Chaplin, Lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons Smile, though your heart is aching Smile, even though it’s breaking When there are clouds in the sky you’ll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow Smile and maybe tomorrow You’ll see the sun come shining through for you Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear may be ever so near That’s the time you must keep on trying Smile what’s the use of crying You’ll find that life is still worthwhile If you’ll just Smile

Dear Blue, it’s me Don’t want to fight, please read I thought I’d write to you and share my point of view No don’t you cry, for me Please wipe your eyes and see my blackness clearly No I never caused any pain or harm to you, Dear Blue… I see your lights, I know the drill My IDs out, hands on the wheel For you, Dear Blue When I think of all the things that I’ll never get to do And all the things I know I’ll miss, like spring and family barbecues And my mothers smile is gone because of you Because of you, Dear Blue Dear Blue, I’m here To reprimand your fear I know I’ve promised not to be unfair to you, Dear Blue Have you thought about that night? How your fear…it stole my life It’s true, Dear Blue When I think of all the things that I’ll never get to do And all the things I know I’ll miss, like spring and family barbecues And my fathers eyes, will cry forever too Because of you, Dear Blue Because of you, Dear Blue Dear Blue, that’s all I hope you’ve learned from this letter I’ve wrote And the next time that a brown boy frightens you Remember me, Dear Blue

about

la reserve volume 01 is our first compilation as a label that showcases the wide display of talent, musicianship and eclectic creativity of our artists. The impetus for this release is to support the fight against systemic racism and 100% of the proceeds from this record will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative (eji.org).

Every la reserve artist created or submitted a special track, unreleased work or alternate take for this initiative. The result is a double EP that features an indie / rnb / singer songwriter sound (Side A) and a contemporary jazz sound (Side B).
